Passenger buses torched in city

Pickets set fire to two passenger buses in Dhanmondi 15 number road area of the city on Sunday, the second day of BNP-led 18-party called 72-hour blockade.
Witnesses said that a group of blockaders came out with a possession in the area around 10:30 am and set ablaze. On information, two units of fire fighters rushed the spot to douse the flame. There was no casualty in this incident as the passengers managed to get down from the buses in time. Dhanmondi Thana Officer-in-Charge Masud Karim confirmed the matter to banglanews.

13 cocktails blasted Cops-Shibir clash in capital

Activists of Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, blasted 13 cocktails and locked into clashes with law enforcers in separate places of the city on Sunday morning, the second day of 72-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance.
In Khilgaon, Shibir men brought out a procession at around 7:50am in Shipaibagh area and blasted five cocktails aiming law enforcers. In reply, police fired rubber bullets to disperse the blockaders. In Khilkhet, Shibir men from a procession set fire on roads by pouring petrol at around 8:00am and hurled eight cocktails at police. They fled the scene after police fired several rounds of rubber bullets. Police recovered a fresh cocktail and four bottles of petrol from the spot.

Dhumketu Express derailed Dhk-Rajshahi rail services halted

Three compartments of Dhaka-bound Dhumketu Express derailed in Nondangachhi area near Sarda stationas blockaders uprooted fishplates of rail tracks early Sunday.
Rajshahi railway police thana officer-in-charge Alamgir Hossian told banglanews, “Rail communications on Dhaka-Rajshahi route through Nondangachhi area remained snapped from 2:15am following the derailment. No casualty was reported as the trail was running in low speed, he added. He also said that Iswardi junction was informed the matter. A relief train rushed to the spot. The rail services on the route will resume on Sunday morning after clearing the line through rescuing the compartments.

Blockade underway for day-2

The second day of the nationwide 72-hour road-rail-waterway blockade, enforced by the BNP-led 18-party alliance, is underway under a minimum supervision of the law enforcers.
The whole city except BNP’s Naya Paltan central office area has not had a noticeable patrolling by the law enforcers lately. However, a very few passenger buses departed from Saidabad and Gabtoli bus terminals from 12:00 am to 6:00 am. Other vehicles were hardly seen to ply on the road. Moreover rail communications on Dhaka-Rajshahi came to a halt from 2:15am Sunday as picketers removed some fishplates of rail tracks in Nondongachhi area near to Sarda station. Besides, activists of Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, blasted 13 cocktails and locked into clashes with law enforcers in city’s Khilgaon and Khilkhet areas between 7:50 am and 8:00am Sunday. 1st day’s blockade violence Five people including an activist of Chhatra Shibir, an activist of Jubo Dal and three pedestrians were killed in separate violence in Dhaka, Jhenidah, Pabna, Chittagong and Bogra on Saturday, the first day of 72-hour blockade.

Hartal underway in 8-upazila, 3-dist

The hartal and 72-hour blockade is underway simultaneously, called by BNP-led 18-party alliance, in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, five upazilas of Sylhet, two upazilas of Jhenidah, one upazila of Laxmipur and Dinajpur districts on Sunday.
Banglanews Chittagong bureau reports: The hartal and blockade is underway amid cocktails blast, vandalism, possession chase and counter chase between the picketers and law enforcers in the port city. Police, however, nabbed three picketers from the sport. Confirming the matter, Chandgaon Thana Officer-in-Charge Syed Abdur Rauf said that additional law enforcers were deployed to avoid unwanted situation in the city. Our Sylhet correspondent reports: In the second day of 72-hour blockade, a daylong hartal is being observed in five upazilas of the district. The upazilas are--- Companiganj, Gowainghat, Jaintiapur, South Surma and Gopalganj. The vehicles movement was hardly seen in these areas. However, there was no violence in the area regarding this issue. Banglanews Dinajpur correspondent reports: The Daylong hartal is underway in Dinajpur as well on Sunday. The vehicles movement was halted and the shops remained shut in jail road area of the district town in the morning. A possession was brought out led by district BNP president Lutfar Rahman Mintu at around 7:00am and set fire on roads. In LAXMIPUR, the daylong hartal, called by Ramganj upazila unit Juba Dal, is underway in the upazila on Sunday. The alliance is enforcing the shutdown protesting the killing of a Juba Dal leader M Munir Hossain. Earlier on Friday, miscreants kidnapped Munir Hossain, 35, and then killed him brutally. The president of upazila Juba Dal Giash Uddin Polash told banglanews that all front and associate organizations of BNP extended their supported in the hartal. In Cox’s Bazar, the dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by BNP, is progressing in the district peacefully. In Jhenidah, the dawn-to-dusk shutdown, called by BNP-led 18-party alliance, is underway in Kotchandpur and Moheshpur upazilas amid stray incidents of picketing.
